Transformers, a movie I can enjoy with my kids

Revenge of the Fallen

Transformers is making its way to the big screen again and I can’t wait! This is truly a movie that ALL of the family can enjoy. We sure did the first time. We took our kids to see it and they had little knowledge of what a Transformer was. Still we knew the boys would like it, and like it they did, this was the second movie (Night at the Museum was the first), that literally had them at the edge of their seat. I don’t know what I enjoyed more, the movie or watching them open mouthed and completely immersed in the action.

But to be truthful, I actually enjoyed it tremendously as well. Though a PG13 movie, younger children (from 7 on) love it just as much as any teenager or adult that got all of the jokes. The action and special effects make up for any dialogue they missed. And though true Transformer fans said that much of the history of the Autobots and the Decepticons was left out and little personality was given to the Robots themselves, from my point of view, not a fan but a mother, it was a fun fast paced movie worth watching with my children.

Shia LeBeouf

I do have to mention that though; and I am not, nor do I pretend to be a movie critic or a movie star follower, I absolutely love Shia LeBeouf. I can’t believe how far he’s come from Disney’s Even Steven series, series that I saw with my children and truly dreaded. I did not like the character or the plot. But from Even Steven’s time, Shia seems to have, unlike other Disney actors, found a way to break free of the Disney chains. It seems that Shia selected his roles intelligently, allowing the audience to get used to him in other roles. He was able to slowly move from boyhood into teen and now young adult smoothly.

Transformers Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

He either didn’t go for the big roles at first or it just turned out that way but, he managed to land in Transformers’ lead role and has worked with some of Hollywood’s biggest names during the past 4 years. From The Even Stevens series and Movie (1999-2003) he played small roles in big blockbuster movies such as: Dumb and Dumber: When Harry met Lloyd (2003), Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle (2003), I Robot (2004) and Constantine (2005); taking on his first leading role away from Disney in Disturbia (2007) and then a voice lead in Surf’s Up (2007) jumping right into Transformers (2007).

But he didn’t slow down after his big blockbuster role; in 2008 he started opposite Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I have to say that though I wasn’t a big fan of Transformer I was of Indiana Jones. Though it wasn’t my favorite Indy movie it was good. Harrison Ford makes fun of his age and abilities making it easier to take, but I liked Shia’s performance (though criticized as a miscast by true hard-core fans). These movies are meant to be entertaining not Oscar winners. Beside for us, Transformers, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and A Night at the Museum have been my children’s all time favorite movies. So they are at the top of my list because they are movies that I can share and enjoy just as much as they do, so I give them some wiggle space.

To end my little account, I must say that I certainly hope that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will deliver and that Shia LeBeouf’s career keeps on moving forward. So from this movie fan, good luck and keep it up.
